Rose Harbor in Bloom

Having been a fan of Debbie Macomber for many years, I was excited to review one of her books. And more so after becoming a fan of the Cedar Cove series (a television series based on Macomber’s book series on the same name). Rose Harbor in Bloom actually takes place in the quaint, picturesque town of Cedar Cove – so it was nice to be able to identify with some of the characters and landmarks from the now famous Cedar Cove series.
This story begins with Jo Marie, a young widow who moved to Cedar Cove to open a B&B. She hopes to finds solace and healing in this sleepy town and she quickly feels right at home, despite the growing love/hate relationship brewing with her handyman, Mark. There is no shortage of drama either as she opens her doors to guests like Annie (a young lady who is organizing a 50th anniversary celebration for her grandparents and has just escaped a failed relationship) and Mary (a successful business woman who is battling a serious illness and harbors a secret regret from many years ago). The stories unfolding hint to mystery, love, family drama, and even some humor. All elements I find fascinating. And this book did not disappoint.
Macomber’s characters are interesting, complicated, and likable. Even Jo Marie’s dog, Rover, has an important role to play! Plus her storyline is believable, relatable, and refreshing. I immediately liked the heroines of the story and enjoyed all the drama unfolding around them. I even felt like a guest at the B&B at times and confess that I fantasized what it would be like to walk in Jo Marie’s shoes and run the Rose Harbor Inn. But really I think this was just the author’s way of helping you escape into this storyline – to become invested in the characters and in their plight, and to help readers learn how people can re-invent and heal following difficult times. For those of you looking for a nice, easy, and lighthearted read for the summer season, consider Rose Harbor in Bloom. It’s a book whose storyline will have impact and whose characters will become like old friends. The best part is that readers get to enjoy the Rose Harbour Inn and the lovely Jo Marie and her beloved guests in other books in this “Rose Harbor” series too. The fun just doesn’t stop here.
