I found myself reading this book for a second time prior to writing this. I am honestly, still, unsure of my overall thoughts. I enjoyed the concept of the book but felt as though there was something missing. I still wish I could rewrite the ending.
The story starts with a boy being kidnapped, and leads into the trials and tribulations of his family and friends trying to deal with his disappearance. But when he wakes up in the basement of the local mall a year later, despite being able to go home, he is in fact, never able to go home again. He quickly realizes that he is dangerous to be around and so isolates himself and therefore inflicting more pain on both himself and the people around him. Despite numerous attempts to be around the people he loves, his hopes are dashed each and every time.
I wanted so badly for this character to be cured and for the evil man who did this to him to be brought to justice. That didn’t happen. Which left me at the end of the book feeling as though the boy was cheated in life and there was nothing I could do about it.
