My Cat, Coon Cat by Sandy Ferguson Fuller
|February 23, 2014||Posted by Christa McGrath under Animals, Children's Lit|
When a young girl movies into a new home with her little kitten, she notices a shy maine coon cat wandering her yard and sets out to befriend this beautiful, graceful cat – the one with the huge bushy tale, big green eyes, and maybe a hungry belly.
Fuller writes in a 4-line, rhythmic style as she invites her child audience to follow the budding friendship developing between the new girl on the block and the elusive and homeless coon cat. A beautiful story unfolds and children will delight in the playfulness of the main coon and the gentle loving nature of the little girl. The big, bold, and colorful full-page illustrations beautifully portray the coon cat—complimenting the text and serving as a learning tool at reading time. I think this would make a sweet and simple story for children between the ages of 3 and 6.
