This children’s book is packed with information about bees. Fun facts about the different kinds of bees, the jobs they carry out, and their importance in the world. It reads as a conversation between the narrator and a young boy named Edgar who has a fear of bees. The narrator is trying to teach Edgar about bees and help him overcome his fear. So the flow of the story is engaging for little ones. It is an educational and relevant book. It has an important role to play in relaying the importance of bees to a young audience and it uses a clever way to help children overcome their fear by informing them of the bees’ oh-so-important existence and what a world without them would actually mean. There is even a quick lesson on how honey is actually made!
The author uses colorful, kid-friendly illustrations and big bold print. As an adult reader, I found the pages a little chaotic and busy in terms of layout and flow. But I imagine this format might be fun for kids.
Give Bees a Chance would be a great resource in the classroom setting and would make story time at home a wonderful learning opportunity for children between the ages of 4 and 8. It really is a must read for the next generation as it carries an important message but does so in a very sweet and fun way.
