Oh how I loved this book! From the first sentence I was hooked and I couldn’t (and didn’t) put it down.
Grace lives in a trailer in Cape Breton with Fletcher, her roommate. Grace is estranged from her son and is searching for her mother and sister. One day, Grace’s son Jon calls her unexpectedly from Manhattan to ask for her help with his daughter, Melissa. Grace agrees to take on Melissa and brings her back to Cape Breton to live in the trailer with her and Fletcher. She then begins to tell Melissa the story of her life: raised in a cult, unaware of who her father was, married to the cult leader at the age of twelve – and that’s just the beginning.
The book alternates between the past and the present as Grace tries to repair her relationship with her son as well as her son’s relationship with his daughter. There are a lot of twists and turns and a few giggles along the way. Grace is a no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is, swear-like-a-sailor woman. She is absolutely amazing.
If you only buy one book this year, I highly recommend Amazing Grace!
